David & June Gordon Memorial Trust Winners

We were delighted to have Jennie Chalmers from the David and June Gordon Memorial Trust come and visit us last week to present two of our very talented art students with their prizes following their entries against pupils from other schools in Aberdeen Shire & City. Jennie (along with another Trustee and former pupil, Robert Lovie) came to visit us previously during our November exhibition where they selected their favourite pieces from all the fantastic work on show.

Kaitlyn Stopper (S3) was selected as the overall 2019 winner in the S1-S3 category for her portrait piece of the Joker from the recently released movie of the same name – the judges were particularly impressed with this striking, dramatic piece for its technique, colour and composition. Jasmine Walker (S4) was runner up in the S4-S6 category for her amazingly detailed work. The judges were very impressed by her drawing technique, design and use of colour, and the great empathy for, and delicacy with, the subject. (We currently cannot show Jasmine’s piece as it is part of her coursework folio and therefore sensitive exam material – we will share it following the results in August.)
We are very proud of the girls for their hard work and amazing talent being recognised in such a fantastic fashion and their work and involvement in the competition has really spurred them (and others) to really work hard at their art and to take pride in their accomplishments.
Well done girls!
