Software Engineering Graduate Apprenticeships
Our Software Engineering GA degree programme has been designed in partnership with industry and draws upon global research on work-based learning best practice.
Importantly, our employer partners are recruiting now and the window for students to apply for 2020 extends into the Summer. Barclays alone are recruiting 47 Tech GAs with us and other big name and exciting tech companies are coming online soon. You can view our vacancies via this link:-
To highlight a few benefits:
Graduate Apprentices benefit from a job, a salary (starting salary circa £15k) and a degree (Software Engineering BSc Hons) at the same time.
Applicants apply directly to the employers therefore not impacting UCAS submissions.
The degree course is funded by Skills Development Scotland.
The GA is 4 years with the time split between the employer and the university.
The apprentices have a strong on campus university experience through our block learning programme in years 1 and 2
There are options to specialise in Data Science, Cyber Security, or Systems Engineering in years 3 and 4
We also flex a little on our entry requirement accepting B’s rather than our straight A norm. This really opens the opportunity for more students to attain a Russell Group University degree and consider options beyond a traditional route. It is a great option for students for whom Maths, Sciences and ICT related subjects are their strong point.

Oil and Gas Technical Apprentice Programme (OGTAP) managed by OPITO and the ECITB is recognised as one of the most successful apprenticeship schemes of its kind.
Established in 1999, the scheme continues to grow in stature and offers a reputable learning experience whilst providing the oil and gas industry with suitably skilled, trained and motivated technicians.
OGTAP apprentices have the opportunity to gain recognised qualifications, combined with practical training hosted by OGTAP sponsoring companies.
The programme is offered in four key disciplines:
- Electrical Maintenance
- Mechanical Maintenance
- Process Operations
- Instrumentation and Control Maintenance
Apprentices attend an industry appointed college for 21 months, gaining various qualifications including:
- SVQ Level 2 (Performing Engineering Operation)
- NC (multi-discipline)
- HNC (allocated discipline)
- OPITO Global Standards – Oil and Gas Level 2
After college, OGTAP apprentices spend two years with a sponsoring energy company where they receive expert training and mentoring, gaining industry specific skills as well as an SVQ Level 3 in their chosen discipline.
